Normally, the flu season doesn’t reach its peak until the end of January. But this time, it kicked off as early as the 48th calendar week of 2025. In Baden-Württemberg, confirmed influenza cases climbed from 1,451 to 6,526 within weeks – more than four times the number for the same period last year.

Health authorities point to the early virus circulation and warn that the curve is far from flattening. Many vaccinations were administered too late, resulting in a large reservoir of unprotected individuals.
