As reported by the Swiss television channel RTS, a video filmed by a customer of the bar on New Year’s Eve 2019-2020 has indeed been found.
In the clip, we can see people celebrating the event with bottles of alcohol, but also Bengal fires, which were already very similar to acoustic foams. An employee had then tried to intervene to prevent the risk of fire. “Watch out for the foam,” he said in the middle of the crowd. According to the customer who captured the video, the waiter was well aware of the danger, thus emphasizing that the threat had already been identified within the establishment.
Fire in Crans-Montana: a risk identified for more than ten years?
As reported by RTS, doubts about the conformity of the work were shared as soon as the basement of the bar was transformed into a nightclub in 2015. Some well-known figures in Crans-Montana have also expressed their concerns about this, but their remarks have unfortunately never led to concrete changes. According to a former employee of the establishment, customers used to brandish Bengal fires while climbing on tables or on the shoulders of their friends. The risk of acoustic foams igniting was therefore particularly increased under these conditions.
