In France, nearly 15% of the population is affected by depressive episodes. Among 15-29 year olds, a quarter of young people say they have experienced a depressive state, according to a recent study by Institut Montaigne. However, many of them do not benefit from any therapeutic support.
It is essential to differentiate between a simple dry spell and a deep depressive state. Depression occurs when the sadness becomes persistent (more than two weeks), and is accompanied by symptoms such as intense fatigue, loss of pleasure, marked guilt or sleep disturbances.
Dr. Fabiano doesn’t talk about a walk every now and then. He advocates supervised and personalized physical activity programs. The aim is to integrate sport into the treatment, in the same way as a medicine, with regular monitoring.
